Joe Mercer, a man overlooked due to recent blues success but thought of as one of the most important men in City’s history.

In 1938 Manchester City experienced a huge demise as they were relegated from the First Division and became the first reigning champions to be relegated. This monotonous period remained for City fans for the next three decades. That was until Joe Mercer was appointed manager in 1965. Within his short time at City he got them promoted in his first year in charge, won the FA cup in the season after and then went on to eclipse all of this by winning the UEFA Cup Winners Cup and the League Cup in 1970. City were then a major force and coached by one of the most dynamic men in Europe at the time.

If it weren’t for his touchline heroics, City may have continued to decline over the years and might not have been promoted back to the First Division. This retro bobble represents Mercer and the classic 1969 FA Cup Final red and black striped kit that his men wore on that victorious footballing day. We also added a touch of sky blue to give it that extra City mark.
